...and here are some clients we recommend you try if you don't have one already. There are too many to list, and we can't help with the configuration of every application under the sun, but we can certainly get you started.

We don't recommend the use of "all-in-one" instant messenger clients with IRC support, such as Trillian or Fire, because they tend to implement IRC support poorly or ineffectively. These problems include issues with channel listings and IRC formatting, but there are other issues that have been encountered before. Because of the poor quality of these clients, we recommend you use a dedicated client like the ones listed above; you'll thank us later.
